பழமொழி நானூறு
அரிது அவித்து, ஆசு இன்று உணர்ந்தவன் பாதம்,
விரி கடல் சூழ்ந்த வியன் கண் மா ஞாலத்து,
உரியதனில் கண்டு உணர்ந்தார் ஓக்கமே-போல,
பெரியதன் ஆவி பெரிது
(சொ-ள்.) அரிது அவித்து - முக்குற்றங்களையும் அருமையாகக் கெடுத்தலான், ஆசு இன்று - குற்றமின்றி, உணர்ந்தவன் பாதம் - முற்ற அறிந்த கடவுளின் திருவடிகளையே, விரிகடல் சூழ்ந்த வியன்கண்மா ஞாலத்து - அகன்ற கடலால் சுற்றப்பட்ட அகன்ற இடத்தினையுடைய பெரிய இவ்வுலகில், உரியதனிற்கண்டு - உரிமைப் பொருளைப் போலக் கருதி, உணர்ந்தார் ஓக்கமே - அறிந்தவர்களது உயர்வே, பெரியதன் ஆவிபோல பெரிது - பேருடம்பினையுடைய ஆவியைப் போன்று பெரியது.
(க-து.) கடவுளின் திருவடிகளைஉரிமையாக வணங்கினார்களது உயர்வே மிகச் சிறந்தது.
(வி-ம்.) முக்குற்றங்கள் : - காமம், வெகுளி, மயக்கம், கெடுத்தல் அருமைதோன்ற அரிதவித்து என்றார். குற்றமற உணர்தலாவது - ஐயந்திரிபின்றி அறிதல். பெரிது : குறிப்பு வினைமுற்று. முக்குற்றங்களையும் கெடுத்தாலன்றிக் குற்றமற உணரலாகாமையின் அவித்து என்பது ஏதுப் பொருட்கண் வந்த வினையெச்சம். பெரிய உடம்பின்கண் உள்ள ஆவி பெரியதாய்ப் பரவியிருக்கும். கண்டுணர்ந்தார் ஓக்கமே போலப் பெரியதன் ஆவி என்றாரேனும், பெரியதன் ஆவிபோல ஓக்கமே பெரிது என்பது கருத்தாகக் கொள்க. பின் வருவனவற்றிற்கும் இஃதொக்கும். ‘பெரியதன் ஆவி பெரிது' என்பது இச் செய்யுளில் வந்த பழமொழி.

जो व्यक्ति काम, क्रोध और मोह जैसे मानव जीवन के मूल दोषों को जीतकर, दोषरहित होकर ईश्वर के वास्तविक स्वरूप को जान लेता है, उसकी आत्मिक स्थिति और महानता बहुत ऊँची होती है।
यह महानता दिखावे में नहीं होती, परंतु वह उतनी ही गूढ़ और व्यापक होती है, जैसे एक बड़े शरीर में आत्मा — अदृश्य लेकिन अनिवार्य और सर्वव्यापी।
तमिल कहावत का हिंदी रूपांतरण:
"बड़े शरीर की आत्मा बड़ी होती है।"
यानी – मूल आत्मिक मूल्य ही सच्चा मूल्य है, बाहरी आकार या रूप नहीं।
